A world of activities at the Minto Recreation Complex
Living in Quinn’s Pointe means easy access to many wonderful amenities, as well as a score of ways to make the most of the great outdoors. Residents of the community also have easy access to the Minto Recreation Complex—the result of a partnership between Minto Communities and the City of Ottawa’s Community Champions Program.
The fully accessible Recreation Complex has something for everyone, including competitive sports facilities, a pool, and numerous programs for both children, and adults. Facility rentals are also possible and can be booked on-site or through the City of Ottawa. Let’s take a look at everything the Minto Recreation Complex has to offer.
Into the pool, everyone
There’s no shortage of fun to be had when visiting the pool at the Minto Recreation Complex, which was given the honour of being amongst the top 10 indoor pools in Canada by Chatelaine Magazine. The 25m lap pool boasts six swim lanes—perfect for practicing your strokes, or racing your neighbours for the title of fastest swimmer on your street.
If you have a desire to finesse your diving skills, or just make waves with your best cannonball, then try the 1m or 6m diving boards. The Tarzan Rope is also a favourite with the kids for swinging out over the water.
Aquafit classes are offered at the pool for those who enjoy the low-impact benefits of water as they stay in shape with aquarobics. Swimming lessons are available for children and adults of all skill levels. Plus, aquatic safety and teaching certifications can also be earned at the facility.
Full lists of activities, lessons and schedules can be found through the City of Ottawa.
Hit the ice
Whether you’re strapping on a pair of skates for the first time, or cheering for your child as they chase the puck towards their opponents’ net, the Minto Recreation Complex has two NHL-sized rinks for your use and enjoyment.
One of the ice rinks is fully accessible, and both change rooms offer full accessibility. The facilities can be rented for both private use or team sports. You can also take advantage of the family and public skates that are frequently held. Check out the City of Ottawa website for the complete skate schedule.
Take to the Quinn’s Pointe Field
Just outside the Complex you’ll find Quinn’s Pointe Field, an artificial turf sports field that has been designed to meet both CFL and FIFA design standards. This regulation field is a terrific place for team sports, whether it’s football, soccer—or football if you’re a FIFA fan— field hockey, or lacrosse. Keep your eyes peeled for mailers or signs around the Complex and within the community inviting registration for local competitive and leisure sports leagues if you or your family members are wanting to get more involved.
Activities with children in mind
The City of Ottawa offers many programs at the Minto Recreation Complex for families with children, aged 6–12. Before and after school programs are a great choice for children to keep them engaged and active during the week. Day camps are offered during winter and March breaks, and PA days. Summer day camps also run from the first weekday after Canada Day until the last Friday before Labour Day.
Children attending these programs are sure to have a blast as they learn and practice badminton, basketball, cooking, skating, singing, swimming and much more. For a complete list of programs and schedules, visit the JOINOttawa website.
