Minto Communities and CHEO: Giving Hope a Home Since 2001
Minto Communities is proud to support the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) by partnering with the CHEO Foundation’s Dream of a Lifetime Lottery for 21 years running. Providing hope to our community and giving families a reason to dream is more important than ever, and it’s an honour to design and build the lottery’s Grand Prize – Minto Dream Home. This year’s home, the Caraway, reflects better living as a Net Zero Energy home connected to the outdoors and designed with a family-first approach.
Dan Champagne, Vice President of Development and Corporate Relations for the CHEO Foundation, had this to say about the initiative.
"The Minto Dream Home has been the custom-built jewel of the Grand Prize in the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery for over 20 years. The CHEO Foundation is grateful to celebrate this partnership every year. We receive a full team effort from everyone at Minto. Hundreds of workers put their touch on the Minto Dream Home and are completely dedicated to the goal of the lottery – supporting CHEO. Minto and their team have had a huge impact on the lives of children and youth in our community. This partnership is so strong that one of the main hallways within CHEO has been named "Minto Way" to honour the positive impact that Minto has had on the CHEO community.”
The Minto Dream Home for CHEO is a genuine team effort from the onset, and it starts by getting the whole community involved with a naming contest in the spring. The name of this year’s home was selected from nearly 1,500 unique submissions from residents across Ottawa. Names ranged from the Nova to the Lingonberry, each one reflecting the theme of hope while also connecting to nature and innovation. Daniel Campbell delivered the winning name, the Caraway, as it parallels a desire for simplicity, richness and elegance in design. This name also symbolizes a place to plant your roots; a place to grow and leave your worries behind. Something that resonates with many of us right now.
"I'm thrilled to hear that my submission was selected as the winning name for the next Minto Dream Home," Campbell said. "The CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery brings the Ottawa community together to support a cause that is close to my heart. Being able to take part in the process is a great feeling. I can't wait to see the Caraway!"
Once again, the Minto Dream Home is located in our esteemed community of Mahogany in Manotick. The community perfectly mirrors the Caraway – charming, vibrant and full of character – and combines peaceful green spaces and all the several amenities to help homeowners live better.
The Caraway is a bungalow-inspired home situated on an oversized corner lot that backs onto Mahogany Pond. The impressive wrap-around porch offers a peaceful escape to the outdoors, while the greenhouse in the backyard complements the landscaping. The Caraway provides space for everyone in the family, including private areas with outdoor views, as well as playful hubs like the home theatre, gaming room and hobby shop. True to its bungalow design, the Caraway features a primary bedroom suite on the main floor, while the second floor includes a loft area, two additional bedrooms and a bathroom.
We once again collaborated with Tanya Collins Design to create this chic and comfortable home. The interior design concept is contemporary and luxurious, embracing clean lines and simplicity throughout – a nod to Scandinavian design. Neoclassical elements also provide elegance and richness to the home, enhanced by accents of burgundy, clay and shell tones.
Built for new beginnings. Designed for brighter days.
At Minto, we’ve been committed to supporting our community here in Ottawa for more than 65 years – and the Minto Dream Home is an extension of that. Half a million lives annually – patients, family members, friends and more – are affected by CHEO’s impact, so we’re blessed to be able to give back to a hospital that’s touched so many of our lives.
Last year, the Dream of a Lifetime Lottery raised more than $8 million, with tickets selling out in record time. It’s our goal this year to repeat that success and continue to support CHEO when they need us the most. But we need your help to do it.
