A perfect day out in Kanata
After a long work week, it’s nice to just kick back and relax. But, if you’re looking for a little excitement, while staying closer to home, Kanata is brimming with things to do. You don’t have to go far from Arcadia to get your fill of shopping, entertainment and adventure. Come along with us for a perfect day out in Kanata.
Start the day with an adventure
If the weather is beautiful, head to the South March Highlands after breakfast. Known for being one of the most biodiverse locations within the City of Ottawa, this old-growth forest provides the perfect backdrop for an explorational hike.
If you wake up to rainy weather, don’t fret! You can still get active by hitting up Altitude Gym for a morning of rock climbing. With facilities suited for all skill levels, Altitude has something for everyone, including the kids.
Satisfy your appetite, then conquer the afternoon.
Hiking or rock climbing can build up an appetite that only a hearty lunch will satisfy. Montana’s, located in Kanata Centrum off Terry Fox Drive, is just a hop, skip and a jump from anywhere in Kanata. The rustic decor and delicious food combine for an enjoyable dining experience. Plus, it’s perfect for kids and young-at-heart because you can draw on the table.
After lunch, hop on over to Best Buy to browse their massive selection of movies and video games. If you’ve got kids, this is your opportunity to begin setting them up for the evening—we’ll get to that part—by letting them pick out a movie or game. Then, head to PetSmart and check out the small pets. There may even be some cats available for adoption that just love having visitors come play with them.
Afterwards, it’s just a short jaunt down Campeau Drive to John G. Mlacak Community Centre where you can peruse books at the Ottawa Public Library, or read stories with your children. While there, a stroll through the Kanata Civic Art Gallery, which showcases works by local members, will round out the afternoon.
Finish with an evening out.
If you have children, now’s your chance to pick up a pizza from Lorenzo’s, and meet the babysitter back at home to drop off the kids and head out for a much-needed date night. If you don’t have children, skip that part. First on the agenda is Fratelli, for a glass of wine and traditional Italian fare, expertly prepared with a modern flare. Then, round out the evening by taking in a Kanata Theatre production at the Ron Maslin Playhouse. The local productions, lovingly produced by their dedicated volunteers, are sure to entertain and delight.
There are so many great places to discover in Kanata. Possibilities for an exciting day out on the town are seemingly endless. For more ideas on things to do around Arcadia, check out our amenities article.
