Art Gallery Tour of Station Gallery
Created in 1966 by a group of art enthusiasts, the Station Gallery is a place that brings community members together, to immerse themselves in the various facets of art.
Originally named Whitby Arts Incorporated, the name was changed in 1970 after the group purchased Whitby’s Grand Trunk Railway Station, saving it from demolition.
Although the building was expanded to enhance gallery capacity, the name “Station Gallery” was adopted to reflect the building’s heritage.

The gallery connects with community members through their curated exhibitions, educational programs and permanent collections.
With new exhibits on display every six weeks, the Station Gallery is constantly showcasing a diverse assortment of works from artists across the nation.
Community members are encouraged to come and explore, and open studio time offers professional or emerging artists a space to work on their art.
For those who are just beginning their art journey, there are a multitude of classes available for adults and youth alike. Including; photography, pottery, painting, figure drawing, bookmaking and printing.

Also offering a creative writing work shop, the gallery creates a safe and inviting space for members to express themselves through all modes of art.
Known for printing and home to The Nick Novak Boxcar Print Studio, the Station Gallery’s permanent collection consists of 95% print based works.
Past exhibits include, vintage Canadian works, art focused around Black Canadians and the Afro-Caribbean diaspora and beautifully crafted and decorated honouring blankets.
