CITY OF WESTLAKE, FL – (January 29, 2020) — Construction is set to begin on the first house of worship in the City of Westlake since it became Palm Beach County's 39th municipality three-and-a-half years ago.
Minto Communities USA, the developer and lead builder of the master planned community, closed on the sale of 13 acres of land to Palm Beach Gardens-based Christ Fellowship Church in December 2019. Terms were not disclosed. The Church is finalizing its building permits with the City and is expected to start vertical construction in the first quarter of 2020.
The site is located on the east side of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road across from Seminole Ridge Community High School. The Church has been holding pop-up services at the school since last spring.
The Westlake City Council approved Christ Fellowship's site plan that features a 38,156-square-foot worship center with 800 seats and office space. Future development of a 25,000-square-foot building for Church-related activities was also approved.
"We would like to welcome Christ Fellowship Church to Westlake and we look forward to having them as a neighbor," said John Carter, Minto vice president. "Bringing in a house of worship is another important step in the establishment of our growing community."
Much like the City of Westlake, which is Florida's fastest growing city according to U.S. Census data, Christ Fellowship Church has been in expansion mode. The megachurch's other locations are in Palm Beach Gardens, Royal Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Okeechobee, Jupiter, Stuart and Port St. Lucie, with possible future campuses in Vero Beach and Boca Raton.
The 3,800-acre Westlake community is approved for 4,500 homes and more than 2-million square feet of commercial space. Home sales continue to sizzle and Minto has sold more than 470 single-family homes since opening in October 2017, far outpacing projections.
Minto is now selling Phase 2 of its second neighborhood, The Meadows, priced from the low $300s, with its first neighborhood, The Hammocks, nearing sell out.
In June 2019, Minto opened the first phase of its $15 million amenities center. The Westlake Adventure Park includes a resort-style lagoon pool with water slide, a kids' interactive splash pad, and poolside concessions. An expansive recreational lawn features a covered concert pavilion and grassy area for events, along with shade pavilions, grills and picnic area, BMX Pump Park, playground and bocce ball courts. Phase 2 will include basketball courts and adult lap pool.
Commercial development in Westlake is also well under way. In early January, Palm Beach County's Fire & Rescue opened a brand new, state-of-the-art fire station and district headquarters on land donated by Minto just off of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road. Florida Power & Light will soon open a new 400-acre solar energy center, while construction is set to start on a new 7-11 gas station and convenience store, as well as a 91-acre private college preparatory school and sports academy.
Westlake is located at 16610 Town Center Parkway North in the City of Westlake, on Seminole Pratt Whitney Road between Southern Blvd. and Northlake Blvd. For more information on the community call 888-299-3628 or visit www.WestlakeFL.com
