Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Start of Construction for Retail Complex in Westlake
CITY OF WESTLAKE, FL — (February 3, 2023) — Construction is officially underway on a new retail/restaurant complex in Palm Beach County’s newest city, Westlake.
On January 31, Minto Communities joined Konover South, MEC Construction, and city leaders to break ground on the Shoppes of Westlake Landings. The Shoppes is composed of two multi-tenant retail shopping centers and pod of quick service restaurants totaling 23,000 square feet. In 2021, Minto sold a 7-acre parcel within the Westlake Landings business park to Konover South, the developer.
“I want to thank Minto Communities for trusting us to do this project and deliver some needed services to the community,” said Bob Bedard, Konover’s senior vice president of development.
“This project represents another sign of maturation of our growing city,” said John Carter, senior vice president of Minto. “Soon, our residents will have a convenient place to grab a bite to eat or a cup of coffee, enjoy a workout, and take care of their everyday needs.”
Tenants that have signed leases to date include Starbucks, KFC, Taco Bell, Habit Burger 3 Natives, Heartland Dental, Verizon Wireless, Go Green Cleaners, and Orange Theory. Konover South expects the complex to be 100 percent leased by the time it opens later this fall. MEC Construction serves as general contractor.
The Shoppes of Westlake Landings is part of a broader building boom taking place in Westlake, which is approved for 4,500 homes and 2.2 million square feet of commercial development.
In the first quarter of 2023, the new Publix at Westlake Plaza is expected to open with a 50,000 square-foot Publix grocery store and eight new retail stores. In December 2022, Minto sold 9 acres to a West Palm Beach e-commerce company, Jamlyn Supply Inc., that will build an office/flex building and warehouse/distribution facility that will employ about 40 people.
In May 2022, Mitchell Property Realty, Inc. and Ridgeline Property Group acquired a 17.5-acre site from Minto to develop the Westlake Commerce Center, a 227,000 square foot warehouse/distribution/office complex in Westlake Landings. Groundbreaking is expected soon.
Over the past year and a half, two 7-Eleven stores opened for business, as did a new regional service center for the Palm Beach County Tax Collector’s Office.
Just off Seminole Pratt Whitney Road, Christ Fellowship Church is expected to open its brand new, 800-seat worship center in the first quarter of 2023.
On the residential side, Minto, the master developer and primary homebuilder at Westlake, is selling homes in phase 2 of The Orchards, which will have a total of 241 single-family homes. In addition, Minto offers estate homes and townhomes with prices starting in the $400s. Minto also expects to complete Phase 2 of the $22 million amenities center, the Westlake Adventure Park, in the first quarter of 2023. It will feature new basketball courts, an adult lap pool, a multi-purpose building and event lawn, in addition to the numerous amenities already open to residents.
