Minto Communities GTA launches Westshore, a new urban townhome community delivering missing middle housing to Toronto’s Long Branch neighbourhood
Working with leading international architecture firm BDP Quadrangle, Westshore’s first phase brings an all-in-one housing solution for first-time buyers, growing families and empty nesters
October 10, 2023 (TORONTO) – Highlighting the next chapter of their ongoing development in Toronto’s Long Branch community, Minto Communities is excited to bring to market the first phase of its highly-anticipated Westshore community. Nestled in the vibrant South Etobicoke neighbourhood, this urban community will welcome over 500 townhome units over several phases. With its first phase coming to market, Minto introduces an innovative new townhome design, a human-scale approach delivering transformative missing middle housing and highlighting Minto’s continued commitment to delivering quality homes and shaping great communities.
“Starting with our Southshore and Longbranch communities, Minto has been building in the Long Branch neighbourhood for over ten years. And now with Westshore, we are prouder than ever to continue being part of this unique neighbourhood” says Vince Santino, Vice President of Development, Minto Communities. “By bringing in new housing options designed with diverse homeowners in mind, we anticipate Westshore will become the latest opportunity for first-time buyers, growing families and empty nesters to seamlessly integrate into this growing community.”
Originally born from a Minto-led design charette focused on human-scale design, these new townhomes were developed in partnership with architecture firm BDP Quadrangle. The new design strikes a balance of the convenience of condo living — underground parking, elevator access, rooftop terraces, and a common internal corridor — with a range of grade-related townhouse options. By utilizing a combination of one- and two-storey units, circulation space is minimized, and additional area is afforded to the units, giving future residents more space to call home.
“What is interesting about this new design is that the units are based off a shared grid size, allowing for a degree of versatility in unit combinations”, says Richard Witt, Principal, BDP Quadrangle. “A central corridor at alternating floors, served by a central elevator core, provides access to the units, essentially giving us more space to dedicate towards units, keeping the homeowner at the forefront of our design.”
The design will allow purchasers to choose from three product offerings, including two-storey upper units with rooftop patios, one-storey units with balconies, and two-storey ground units with garden patios. These townhome options range between 472-1,282 sq. ft. and feature one to three bedrooms, making them suitable for any lifestyle. In addition to the multi-unit townhomes, future phases of the Westshore community will also include stacked townhomes and traditional townhomes.
“At Minto Communities, we are constantly trying to do things better and this is reflected in our product design. We believe it is important to develop missing middle housing typologies that works to meet market needs while also playing a role in bringing a diverse community together”, says Matt Brown, Director, Product Development, Minto Communities. “With the new townhome design at Westshore, we are excited to grow our housing offerings in the neighbourhood and continue to support current and future housing needs”.
Future residents will enjoy spacious open-concept layouts and top-of-the-line finishes while also benefiting from systems that reduce energy costs and improve air and water quality. Westshore is targeting ENERGY STAR certification, ensuring that the homes will be performance-tested and third-party verified by industry professionals.
Westshore townhomes bring a seamless integration of urban and neighbourhood charm, including access to quaint splashpads, BBQ areas and expanded parks. Residents will be able to connect to the bustling downtown Toronto streets within minutes, whether it is a quick walk to the 501 Streetcar, or a 15-minute walk to the Long Branch GO station, only two stops for Union Station. With access to unique Long Branch storefronts, lush park and lakefront trails, Westshore offers the ideal urban lifestyle.
Sales will begin in October with pricing starting in the $500’s.
