At the mid-point of a $1 million commitment for Minto Communities Inc.


Ottawa, ON (October 1, 2013) – In connection with its funding campaign for the Trades Institute of La Cité collégiale, the La Cité Collégiale Foundation is proud of its partnership with Minto Communities Inc. Today Minto delivered its fifth payment of $100,000 under a 10-year agreement to give $1M to La Cité collégiale Foundation for the Minto Trade Centre – Alphonse-Desjardins campus.
 
This morning, Jacques Brisson, Vice President of Minto Communities Inc., and Michael Waters, CEO of The Minto Group handed Minto’s cheque to Lise Bourgeois, President of La Cité collégiale, Lise Parent, president of the Board of Directors of Foundation of La Cité collégiale and Jean Pigeon, Director of the Development Office and Foundation of La Cité collégiale. “It is thanks to donors like Minto that La Cité Collégiale can continue to offer high-quality classroom apprenticeship training,” declared Jean Pigeon, Director of La Cité Collégiale Foundation. “The apprenticeship we offer is oriented towards success, and reflects the realities of the labour market.”
 
Opened in September 2010 in the Orléans area, the Minto Trade Centre– Alphonse-Desjardins campus currently has approximately 850 students enrolled in programs relating to the construction trades annually, and offers 10 postsecondary programs, including Residential Construction, Techniques of Building Construction, Techniques of Plumbing and Industrial Mechanic Millwright.  The Minto Trades Centre also offers 13 apprenticeship programs.
 
According to Michael Waters, “Minto is proud to support this type of facility which rounds out career training choices for young people in our community and more importantly, ensures a steady stream of qualified workers for the construction industry where labour shortages have created challenges in the past.”
