2014 Ontario Home Builders’ Association (OHBA) Annual Awards of Distinction
The Minto Group stood out amongst a respected group of industry peers to win the Ontario Home Builder of the Year Award at the Ontario Home Builders’ Association (OHBA) Annual Awards of Distinction dinner held at the Ottawa Convention Centre on Monday evening.
The prestigious industry award recognizes outstanding professionalism and integrity within the business, industry and community. Nominees were judged on their excellence in innovative product, community service, sales and marketing and strong support of the industry.
Minto was recognized for the outstanding efforts in meeting market demands for sustainably built, energy efficient, 3rd party certified homes. “We are incredibly proud to win the Ontario Home Builder of the Year Award,” said CEO Michael Waters. “What makes this especially rewarding is that it further validates what we hear from new homebuyers, who are showing up in record numbers to register for many of the homes and high-rise condos we are building in Ontario communities.”
So far 2014 has been a stellar year that has seen the successful re-entry of Minto into the Ottawa high-rise condo market, and the successful launch of communities such as Enclave at Trailsedge in Ottawa, sought after for both the proximity to established amenities as well as natural parkland surroundings. Minto has also enjoyed record sales in the GTA, including the communities of Longbranch, Kingmeadow and Orchard Park.
Innovation permeates Minto’s product development based on the belief in better places to inspire life and a commitment to doing the right thing for our customers, our employees, our communities and the planet. In 2014, Minto was selected to build five zero energy homes – part of Natural Resource Canada’s ecoENERGY Innovation Initiative (ecoEII). Minto was recognized in 2013 for the BILD GTA Low-Rise Green Builder of the Year award for its Oshawa’s Kingmeadow community, and its Minto775 condo became the first building to achieve TGS Tier 2 in Toronto.
Particularly important to Minto is the fact that the Ontario Home Builder Award also recognizes Minto’s commitment to community service. “With nearly 60 years of history in Canada, we pride ourselves on building communities, not just houses,” adds Mr. Waters. “We focus on building futures where we build homes, donating to over 200 charities that build community through education, sports and recreation, healthcare, the arts and the environment.” Minto employees play a role in this community building effort as well: with fundraising pledge matches for employees and paid time off for volunteering.
Previously, Minto won the OHBA GREEN Builder of the Year award in 2008, 2010 and 2011 after continuously delivering environmentally-friendly building designs, leading-edge waste management strategies, a strong internal green culture and support of the green building industry. In 2012 the criteria for the Green Builder of the Year Award were incorporated into the Home Builder of the Year Award which Minto had the honour of winning as well.
