Minto Announces Winner in 2024 Dream Home Naming Contest
OTTAWA, Ontario—March 12, 2024: For the fifth consecutive year, Minto’s homebuilding team in Ottawa held a contest to name the Minto Dream Home for CHEO, the grand prize in the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery. This is the twenty-fourth year that we have built the Minto Dream Home grand prize and for this year’s naming contest we received more than 630 submissions, with name options ranging from Espa to Serenity.
And this year’s contest winner is the Oasis, submitted by Jorge G. It’s a word that feels naturally synonymous with Dream Home and that perfectly reflects the home’s wellness-inspired design. As a prize, Jorge will receive a bundle of three tickets for the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery and an exclusive tour of the home upon completion.
“I had to read my email a few times, since winning this contest came as a great surprise,” says Jorge. “I feel honored and privileged that my suggested name was selected as the winner. Like an oasis, our home provides us with a beautiful, peaceful and comforting place to enjoy. The Minto Dream Home for CHEO lottery is a very noble initiative that tremendously benefits children in great need, along with their families. This year’s Dream Home returns to Minto’s Mahogany, Manotick community. The home design is a joint effort between Minto’s Karen van der Velden and Tanner Vine of Tanner Vine Interiors.
The duo describes the home as a contemporary sanctuary inspired by the Belgian modern farmhouse style. Neutral colour palettes borrowed from nature mix with raw materials to create a calming environment void of any bold accents – clean, minimalist, and tactile.
The 5,000-square-foot home sits on a large lot with no rear neighbours and features three bedrooms, a finished rec room, home office, open-concept kitchen, dining and great room space as well as a large sitting area in the primary bedroom and even a third-floor loft, to name a few features. Winning this contest has brought me immense joy and excitement; it couldn't have come at a better time. Today happens to be my birthday, so receiving this news is truly a special birthday gift. I'm filled with gratitude for this recognition and the chance to contribute to such a meaningful cause.
The Minto team thanks Uzoma Ojemeni for giving the 2023 Minto Dream Home the perfect name. The Equestrian speaks to the home’s unique design and it symbolizes the meaning behind Dream Home. It embodies the hope surrounding the Lottery, for the winner of the home and those who rely on funds raised by the CHEO Foundation. Ojemeni describes ‘the Equestrian’ as the “ideal name for this year's Minto Dream Home given its unique theme, location, and design elements. 2023 MINTO DREAM HOME DESIGN BACKGROUND
The Minto Dream Home returns to Mahogany, a modern and established community in Manotick. The Minto homebuilding team in Ottawa’s Product Design team, led by Product Development Manager Karen van der Velden, and Tanya Collins Design are once again designing the Minto Dream Home for which the duo often find inspiration from the community, design trends and even far-off locales.
The 2023 Minto Dream Home is described as “modern equestrian” by Karen and Tanya. A remarkable design with a mix of buttery leathers, dark greens and strong colours. It’s classic, rich and warm. Masculine yet elegant. Stylish and fashionable. The home features large windows, offering stunning views of the semi-private cul-de-sac lot backing onto protected green space. Crisp roof lines playing off modern Arts & Crafts exterior design elements, while the four-bedroom floorplan delivers over 4,200 square feet of interior space, plus a 3-season patio with nearly 150 square feet.
The equestrian includes stand out features like a fully outfitted media room, a bar and a lounge area in the basement. There’s a spacious den on the first floor, perfect for a home office or a guest room, and a sunset deck off the gorgeous primary bedroom. A network of partners help contribute décor, furnishings, landscaping and materials, while working together to bring the Minto Dream Home to life. Minto Welcomes Christ Fellowship Church to Westlake
CITY OF WESTLAKE, FL — (March 6, 2023) — Minto Communities USA, the master developer and primary home builder of Westlake, welcomes the first house of worship to the city since it was incorporated in 2016. After months of planning, fundraising, and some pandemic-related construction delays, Christ Fellowship Church held its grand opening on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Visitors were treated to live worship music, teaching, a bounce house and family games.
In 2019, Christ Fellowship bought 13 acres from Minto off of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road at 16561 Waters Edge Drive to build a 38,000-square-foot worship center that features an 800-seat sanctuary. The church is approved for an additional 25,000 square feet of space to accommodate future growth.
Based in Palm Beach Gardens, the church has one of the largest congregations in the region with multiple locations throughout Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties. Church leaders saw the potential to reach even more people with a move to the fast-growing city of Westlake.
Senior Pastor, Todd Mullins, told members in a website video: “A couple of years ago, when the initial plans for Westlake were being finalized, we knew we needed and wanted to be part of this community.”
Christ Fellowship Westlake is led by Pastors Jonathan and Natalie Ferguson. The church, known for its contemporary music and worship style, offers numerous ministries related to students and young adults, kids, marriage, special missions and special needs.
“We are so glad to have Christ Fellowship Church now open in the City of Westlake,” said John Carter, Sr. Vice President of Minto Communities. “I know they have big plans to become an active member of the community and serve people throughout the entire region of Central Palm Beach County.”
Westlake is approved for 4,500 homes and more than 2-million square feet of commercial space. In 2022, the city was issued more single-family home building permits than any other municipality in Palm Beach County. Currently, Minto has a variety of single-family homes, estate homes and townhomes for sale starting in the $400s. New neighborhoods are expected to open for sales later in the year.
Minto is wrapping up construction on phase two of the Westlake Adventure Park, a sprawling $22 million amenities center. New additions expected to open over the next month include basketball courts, an adult lap pool, and a multi-purpose building with an adjoining event lawn. A resort-style lagoon pool with tower slide, covered concert pavilion, picnic area, a BMX pump park, playground and dog park are some of the amenities already open to residents for use.
On the commercial side, crews are finishing up construction of a new Publix grocery store and retail plaza, and a separate developer recently broke ground on a new retail complex that will bring a Starbucks, KFC, Taco Bell, Habit Burger, Verizon Wireless, Orange Theory, a dental practice and dry cleaners to the area. Two new 7-Eleven stores are open for residents to get gas, quick items or a hot meal.

TAMPA, FL — (March 10, 2023) — Minto Communities USA has been ranked 18th among the Top 100 Private Home Builders in the U.S. by Home Builder Executive magazine based on 2022 home closings. Minto USA Unveils Plans for 50-Acre Business Park in Westlake
CITY OF WESTLAKE, FL (June 21, 2021) — Commercial development continues at a rapid pace in the City of Westlake. Minto Communities, which is developing the 3,800-acre master-planned Westlake community, has designed a 50-acre business park called Westlake Landings to attract a strategic mix of commercial tenants to service the surging population. The City of Westlake approved the plans last week.
Deerfield Beach-based Konover South, a premier retail real estate company, is contracted with Minto to acquire seven acres within the park to develop a pod of quick service restaurants and two multi-tenant, open-air shopping centers—one 7,000 square feet and the other, 9,450 square feet. Collectively, the area will be known as The Shoppes of Westlake Landings. It will be adjacent to a 7-11 convenience store and gas station currently under construction within the business park.
The Shoppes will feature a mix of service-related businesses and restaurants. Konover South already has commitments from a handful of tenants as it prepares to submit its building plans to the city over the next 30 days.
"We have had our eye on Westlake since the very beginning," said Bob Bedard, senior vice president of development at Konover South. "We look forward to attracting some great businesses to the area so that residents will no longer have to travel a long way for basic services. I fully expect we'll be 100% leased up by next summer."
Minto is also under contract with a local developer to buy 5.75 acres to build a 107, 290 -square-foot self-storage facility whose site plan was also approved by the City. An investment group is seeking to buy a 14.5-acre parcel for an entertainment/sports concept and a final section of Westlake Landings is set aside for a flex office/warehouse project on 17.5 acres. Discussions are underway with several interested developers.
"We wanted to create this mixed-use park to proactively plan for our commercial development activities in Westlake," said Minto Vice President John Carter. "Westlake Landings allows us to be more intentional in our approach and curate the right types of businesses to service our residents."
Westlake Landings is located on the corner of Seminole Pratt Whitney Rd. and Persimmon Blvd. Just to the north, Publix has submitted plans to the City of Westlake to build its own outdoor shopping center—Publix at Westlake Plaza— anchored by a 50,000 square-foot grocery store.
Other non-residential development in the city includes a second 7-11 store and gas station that is under construction across the street from Westlake Landings, on the east side of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road. The Constitutional Tax Collector’s Office for Palm Beach County is currently building a regional service center that is planned to open later this year and located near the Palm Beach County fire station that opened in January 2020. Two years ago, Wellington Regional Medical Center opened a freestanding emergency room and subsequently acquired 35 more acres from Minto to develop a future medical campus. In addition, Christ Fellowship Church is preparing to break ground on an 800-seat worship center located in the heart of Westlake.
The City of Westlake incorporated in 2016, and Minto commenced home sales one year later. In March 2021, Minto will start developing its fourth neighborhood of single-family homes and will break ground on the second phase of the Westlake Adventure Park, which will include basketball courts, an adult lap pool and a multi-purpose building. The community is approved for 4,500 homes at build out.
