Innovation Award: Production Home of the Year

This award celebrates groundbreaking design—not only how a home is built but also how it performs. With sustainability at the forefront of Minto’s build process, a geothermal heating and cooling system was integrated into the Equestrian. Minto Communities, Tanya Collins Design, and ASL Agrodrain Limited worked together to harness this eco-friendly technology, significantly reducing utility bills and offering the lucky winners of the home both comfort and savings.

How does geothermal technology work?

Geothermal heating and cooling utilizes the earth’s stable underground temperatures as a renewable resource. This system efficiently controls the home's climate by extracting heat from the earth during colder months and reversing the process in warmer months. The benefits for homeowners are substantial:

  • Energy efficiency: The system is 81% more efficient than standard homes, consuming less energy which translates into significant cost savings.
  • Sustainability: With 88% lower carbon emissions than typical new builds, it offers greener, more sustainable living.
  • Durability: Geothermal components have a long lifespan, especially the underground parts which can last for decades with minimal maintenance.
  • Comfort: It provides reliable year-round indoor temperature control, unaffected by external weather changes.
  • Additional advantages: It operates quietly, saves space, protects against fluctuating energy costs and includes radiant floor heating and efficient hot water generation.

Kitchen of the 2024 Minto Dream home for CHEO

Best Production Kitchen (251+ sq. ft.)

This award underscores our commitment to design that combines functionality with sophistication. The spacious layout of the Equestrian’s kitchen was the perfect canvas for Minto and our interior design partner, Tanya Collins Design. The teams worked together with Laurysen Kitchens Ltd. to create a space that inspires and amazes.

The open-concept design features an oversized island with enough seating for three—a great place to gather family while preparing breakfast—and a show stopping backsplash. There’s tons of storage with the pantry and cabinetry, while the dark tones are balanced with natural lighting and two elegant hanging lights. The result is a warm, inviting and brightly lit space that’s both beautiful and practical.
