Minto Communities and CHEO: Building the Home with a Heart

Minto Communities is honoured to support the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) as a proud partner of the CHEO Foundation’s Dream of a Lifetime Lottery. It’s a partnership that represents hope – hope for the community and hope for families in need.

For 22 years running, we’ve designed and built the lottery’s Grand Prize – the Minto Dream Home – putting heart and soul into each home. This year’s home, Le Rêve, symbolizes the full weight of the words behind “Dream Home.” It embraces an elegant, inviting design and embodies a holistic approach to wellness, with innovative features designed to maximize your quality of life.

It’s the home with a heart. It’s a place where dreams come true.

CHEO refers to the Minto Dream Home as “a custom-built jewel for the Dream of a Lifetime Lottery.” Adding, “The CHEO Foundation is grateful to celebrate this partnership every year. We receive a full team effort from everyone at Minto. Hundreds of workers put their touch on the Minto Dream Home and are completely dedicated to the goal of the lottery – supporting CHEO.”

That support is more important than ever, with the pandemic having a drastic impact on children throughout Ottawa. "There is somewhere in the order of a 400 per cent increase in traffic to our emergency departments because of COVID with children and our youth, so this money allows us to put it where it’s needed the most right away," CHEO stated when announcing the winner of last year’s home on CTV News Ottawa.

We're blessed to be able to give back to a hospital that’s touched so many of us personally, as half a million lives are impacted each year by CHEO’s services – patients, family members, friends and more. Of course, the Minto Dream Home and the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery is about bringing people together. From trade partners and media relations to the whole community, it’s a genuine team effort. Everybody involved has a role to play, with the purpose of helping give CHEO children and their families hope for a brighter future.

With this in mind, we donated a wall mural to CHEO in 2020 to show our appreciation for everything the hospital does for our community. “Minto Way” is located in one of the main hallways within CHEO and serves to brighten the day of those who see it daily.

It’s time to start dreaming

The Dream of a Lifetime Lottery is a key contributor to the CHEO Foundation, allowing CHEO to continue to provide its life-changing services. By participating in the lottery, you become part of the dream, helping to support Ottawa families and their children in need.

The lottery launched on September 7th, with Le Rêve opening to the public on September 12th – this includes in-person tours for the first time since 2019! And for the first time ever, the Minto Dream Home is located in Kanata, where families live without compromise surrounded by green space and urban convenience.

To further that dream, we once again collaborated with Tanya Collins Design to create this chic and sophisticated home. Le Rêve’s design is largely influenced by a stylish Parisian apartment interior, while the exterior reflects a Modern Prairie home, designed with a wrap-around porch to maximize views and create a connection to the outdoors.
