Pond in Avalon

Avalon Lakeridge

Avalon’s own Lakeridge Trail, which is located just off of Tenth Line on Frank Cauley Way, is a 1.4-kilometre loop around the pond within the community. The gravel path is stroller-friendly, making it the perfect stop for a walk with the whole family any time of day. Explore nature and enjoy some light bird watching along the trail.

Mer Bleue Conservation Area

Mer Bleue Conservation Area

Just a 20-minute drive from Avalon, you can spend the day at Mer Bleue Conservation Area without ever getting bored. With nearly 20 kilometres of trails to explore – by foot, cross-country ski, or snowshoe –  you can choose different stretches to explore. With so many different trails to explore, you can return time after time and discover something new. If you are heading to the conservation area, be sure to follow the principles of outdoor ethics as outlined by the National Capital Commission. You can even bring your dog to most trails at Mer Bleue.

Cardinal Creek

Cardinal Creek Trail

Looking for a trail not too far from home? Cardinal Creek Trail is mere minutes from Avalon and offers almost four kilometres of trail for you to walk, run, or bike along. The trail is a loop, making it an easy stroll for families with younger kids. It’s also dog-friendly, as long as they're on a leash! Cardinal Creek Trail is easy to maneuver, with paved paths or gravel on the entire length. While it’s not totally immersed in the forest like the trails in Mer Bleue, you’ll still be treated to some beautiful views.

Bird Watching

Prescott and Russel Recreational Trail

Traverse the entire length of Prescott and Russell along the multifunctional Prescott and Russell Recreational Trail. Walk or bike through 72 kilometers of agricultural and wooded landscapes, complete with villages across five municipalities. Some small sections of the trail are paved, but the rest are mainly rock dust. In the winter you can snowmobile, snowshoe, or even cross-country ski in certain sections. Bird watchers will also want to keep their eyes out for peak bird-watching opportunities!
