Minto’s 620 Martin Grove Achieves LEED Gold

Minto Richgrove Affordable Seniors Housing, located at 620 Martin Grove Road in Toronto, has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). Constructed in 2011, Minto Richgrove Seniors Affordable Housing is an innovative rental property that supports more environmentally-friendly living in a dynamic community setting.

620 Martin Grove empowers residents to reduce their monthly costs and impact on the environment through numerous enhanced features. Each suite is equipped with an “all-off” switch and ENERGY STAR® appliances – helping residents to reduce their energy consumption and save money on their utility bills. To help residents breathe easier, the paints, coatings and carpets at 620 Martin Grove are low-VOC. Technologies like dual-flush toilets, a green roof and stormwater management systems promote water conservation and savings. To further connect residents to their community, the building provides bike storage and is located within close proximity to public transportation.

In addition to the building performance features, 620 Martin Grove hosts an Etobicoke Services for Seniors (ESS) office on the main floor, which provides health and wellness consultation, caregiver support services, volunteer connections, community education and much more.
“The development of 620 Martin Grove in our Richgrove Village community clearly demonstrates Minto’s commitment to building better, inspiring places for people to live and work,” says Charlsey Brunne, Director of Toronto Customer Experience with Minto. “The affordable, modern housing at Richgrove provides residents with a unique opportunity to reduce their environmental footprint and cost of living, while enjoying superior comfort in their home.”

Minto has worked closely with the City of Toronto to ensure affordability guidelines are maintained below the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) market rates. The property has had full occupancy since completion.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) is an internationally recognized third party environmental program that evaluates a home, building or community’s sustainable building and energy performance.

In achieving LEED® certification, 620 Martin Grove demonstrated excellence in five categories that represent key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water use efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Minto has a longstanding commitment to seeking third party validation on all of its new communities built in Ontario and Florida. In 2012, five Minto developments achieved LEED® certification and Minto was named both Green Builder of the Year and Leader of the Year by EnerQuality and Ontario Home Builder of the Year by the Ontario Home Builders’ Association.
