Weeks after Minto Communities GTA held a ceremonial ground breaking for The Saint, their new condominium development at Church and Adelaide in Downtown Toronto, heavy equipment is arriving to begin work on the Wallman Architects-designed 46-storey tower. Set to reach a height of approximately 149 metres, the building is part of a growing pocket of high-rise density extending east from the traditional boundaries of the Financial District.

The first signs of site activity were spotted this past summer, when demolition began to clear away a two-storey building occupying a portion of the project's footprint. With the site cleared of the structure, the mid-September ground breaking marked the ceremonial start of work, though it would still be several more weeks before true construction activity would begin.

Crews from Michael Bros excavation completed backfilling of the site by the end of October, creating a level surface for heavy drilling rigs to work on. The first of the rigs had already arrived to begin work on the site's shoring system, while a concrete truck also arrived to pour mix to hold the shoring system's piles in place. Shoring holds back the surrounding earth once excavation begins.

The completed building will bring 419 new homes to the neighbourhood, along with new ground-floor retail space that will help to animate this stretch of Church Street.
