Minto’s new North Oak Tower 3 focuses on sustainable living
MINTO COMMUNITIES—The 20-storey, 239-unit North Oak Tower 3 in Oakville, Ont. by Minto Communities offers sustainable building practices including a geo-exchange community energy system.

TORONTO—Minto Communities has launched North Oak Tower 3, a new tower within a master planned community in Oakville, Ont.

Tower 3 is the newest addition to the Oakvillage community. It’s 20 storeys with 239 units located in the Trafalgar neighbourhood. The building was designed by BDP Quadrangle. The community is currently under construction with completion slated for 2027.

The building prioritizes access to nature and the outdoors, biophilic design, the best in sustainable development practices and an amenity program intended to connect residents with their neighbours, indicates a release.

Landscape architect NAK Design Strategies incorporated a landscaped boulevard running along the Athabasca Pond to ensure residents have easy access to the surrounding landscapes including the pond, the municipal trail network and connection to nearby commercial plazas.
North Oak Tower 3 will be connected to a geo-exchange system that serves the towers in this phase of the Oakvillage community.

Geo-exchange systems provide renewable heating and cooling by leveraging the temperatures beneath the earth’s surface, states a release, adding it will also reduce the use of fossil fuels by up to 95 per cent, protects residents from rising utility costs and does not need to be switched on or off seasonally. North Oak’s Geo-exchange community energy system broke ground in March and drilling for towers 4A and 4B is complete. Drilling for North Oak Tower 3 is scheduled to begin in fall 2023.

“Sustainability is an area Minto Communities GTA will always prioritize and pursue new innovative practices to support,” said Carl Pawlowski, project manager of sustainability with Minto Communities GTA, in a statement. “We’re so pleased with the progress of our geo-exchange community energy system so far and are confident this will benefit all the future residents of North Oak Tower 3. We’re also pursuing top third-party energy efficiency certifications and targets like Energy Star Multifamily certification so our community members can trust our commitment to delivering better homes.”
