Members of the building and development industry are constantly improving and raising the bar when it goes to building green, sustainable communities. Minto Communities Canada, as an example, won Ontario Green Builder of the Year for the second time in two years and is now offering net-zero energy ready homes in one of its new Ottawa communities.
In a stroke of good timing, Minto Communities USA opened an office in Tampa Bay in 2008 and made some shrewd acquisitions at the bottom of the market. It snapped up discounted land in Sun City Center in south Hillsborough County and Perico Island in Bradenton, now called Harbour Isle on Anna Maria Sound.
Minto Communities USA has received seven 2016 Eliant Homebuyers’ Choice Awards. Minto earned four Premier Awards and was the second highest ranking builder in North America in the high volume builder category for customer construction experience, purchase experience, design selection experience, and first year quality.
Three new homes and two renovations are among six local projects vying for national honours as the Canadian Home Builders’ Association announced finalists for its annual awards program. Minto Communities Canada grabbed two entries — one for its Hyde model at Arcadia in Kanata and one for a digital marketing campaign.
For the fourth time in five years, Minto Communities Canada was named Ontario Green Builder of the Year for leading the homebuilding industry in energy efficiency and green building at the EnerQuality Awards. Its nomination submission pointed to such achievements as building net zero energy ready homes in its west-end Arcadia community.
Minto Communities USA announced that two new homes are available in TwinEagles. Move in ready homes include the Prestwick and Turnberry single-family homes in the Lockford neighborhood. The Prestwick features 3,743 total square feet with 2,642 square feet under air, and the Turnberry has 4,077 total square feet with 3,064 square feet under air.
Minto Communities USA announced that four new move-in ready homes are available at The Isles of Collier Preserve in Naples, which include the Plumeria and Wisteria single family model homes, the Honeysuckle villa, and the Poinciana coach home. The ecofriendly community has more than half of its land dedicated to preserves and natural habitats.

Minto Communities Canada is giving prospective buyers a free ride. The first 20 purchasers of a condo in the new Bside condo at Minto Westside development in downtown Toronto will get a new Nissan LEAF EV at no extra charge. Minto is building an electrical transformer into its Bside development to handle electric vehicle charging, something most other high-rise buildings haven’t done.
Minto Communities Canada recently unveiled its model home for a net-zero house as part of an energy efficient development in Kanata. When coupled with sufficient solar energy panels, the home will produce enough energy to supply all its owners' needs, through a combination of energy-efficient equipment, well sealed insulation and solar panels.
