EST 1970- An iconic conversion

The International has been a prominent presence in Calgary’s skyline and the city’s history for five decades, with a storied past that includes high profile celebrities, athletes and public figures. Although originally designed as an apartment building, in 1970 it opened instead as the only “all-suite” hotel in North America known as The International Hotel.

From 2005 to 2016 the hotel hosted the Calgary Flames Training Camp (some stayed several months):

Jerome Iginla
Mike Commodore
Lance Bouma
Michael Ferland
Matthew Tkachuk
Johnny Gaudreau

A few of the famous guests of The International Hotel

Legends of the Fall   Unforgiven
Brad Pitt   Clint Eastwood
Anthony Hopkins   Morgan Freeman
Superman II   Silver Streak
Christopher Reeves   Richard Pryor
Margot Kidder   Buffalo Bill
Gene Hackman   Paul Newman

Fit for a king

During the 1988 Winter Olympics, the late Prince Ranier of Monaco and Princesses Caroline and Stephanie were guests of the hotel.
